Turnkey breathed a sigh of relief, if only within his mind. He was safe for now, and he would stay that way for awhile. He finished his breakfast, and as a sign of good faith, washed the dishes from this morning, and the previous night. As another sign of thanks, he even went back upstairs to make the bed, checked to make sure that all of the lights were out, then left through the front door.
At first, he tried the key, but for some reason, it refused to turn. after five minutes of fighting with the lock, he gave up, left the key he was given on the kitchen counter, along with a note, claiming that he was very grateful for the hospitality, that he would be back at about half past five, and that master locksmiths don't need keys.
He once again exited through the front door, this time using his trusty half-diamond pick to activate the pins, and in under a minute, the door was locked. He even tested it a few times to make sure. After that, he checked the time. It was almost time to meet up with Kai, so he hurried off, intent on being on time.
