Knight Shade, immersed by the sight of the youth unharmed, had to regain his countenance. "Oh, um ..." he looked at the pegasus, who seemed tired from the ordeal - be it the monster attack or the magic outlet. Standing on stage was the stallion's dream, but when he did he was somehow caught up in his own world. His own lyrics. His beat. His music. Now he was definitely in the spotlight. "Stonebacks. They almost got me and two other ponies this morning." He shuddered inwardly at the thought of what fate might have befallen the others from the Rift.
He fumbled for the pendant that rested upon the chest of his jacket. "Queen Eclipse gave me this. It emits some kind of magical vibrations. The monsters thought there was an earthquake and fled." He explained its properties calmly, but there was a hint of eagerness in his voice. The Greyvale pony still couldn't believe that he had been bestowed with such a power, and that it had saved these ponies' lives.
"We probably shouldn't linger here," he added with a tone of caution. "They might be back. Besides, strange things has been happening around the black glowing ribbon that stretches through the Everfree Forest. Allow me to take you to safety." The little white pony jerked his head in the direction from which he had come.

Queen Eclipse? He must be mistaken. Queen Luna ruled the Coursian continent. As the white stallion continued it made less and less sense to Kail. Black glowing ribbon? Everfree Forest? What in the Rainbows was he talking about?
"I agree - we shouldn't linger here." Kail shook her wings and tucked them into the side of her body. Lingering would bring the beasts back, but if any of the Champions were still in this forest the stonebacks could be headed their way.
She was torn. Follow this stranger to safety, or continue searching the forest for the other Champions? Whisp looked pale, and Kail hated to leave her with the stranger alone, even if he did seem to be on their side. And since she hadn't seen hide or hair of the others when she was flying above she decided to follow Whisp and keep her safe. It was the least Kail could do.
"Let's go then. Quickly."

The little white stallion nodded sincerely in response, taking the lead. "Follow me. I'm not sure what more we might run into in these shadows ..." He quietly made his way back through the trees, glancing behind to make sure the others followed. "It's not too far," he assured them.
Whisper Wind took a couple of deep breaths, trying to find balance. She had no idea where they actually where, but they couldn't stay here. She smiled politely at Knight Shade, hoping that it would be thanks enough for driving the stonebacks away from her in time. Youth was very comfortable in letting Kailani decide. She padded along, and they had not walked far when they started to climb a hill covered in gnarled roots. From the height she peered into the dim forest below, making out a flicking aurora of darkness that danced between the trees - not quite like fire, but perhaps looking something like if flames could burn underwater, rocked by the sea. "Who are you?"
Out of the Veil the stallion already felt safe enough to slightly drop his guard, and the unicorn's question snapped Knight Shade out of his deep thoughts. "I'm not much different from you, I would think," he said, smiling warmly towards her, but he turned back to the overgrown path as quickly as his smile faded. "I too woke up in this place today." He bit his lip as his thoughts went back to the shocking realisation that had followed. He would rather not discuss that. "It's just up ahead," he called, with a forced quirky ring to it.
[Preferably moving to the Refuge thread?]

Kail had been in many situations that required quick thinking, and knew exactly what the stallion was going through. Sometimes you had to do what you felt was right, and face the consequences later. His false positivity rang in her ears as she followed.
"I must ask," she said as they made their way to safety, whatever that might be, "have you met any others today? Anyone who calls themselves a Champion? Anyone who...glows with a certain light?"
It was the only hope she had left. If the stonebacks got the other Champions, perhaps this stallion had saved them as well...
