[Continued from To The Everfree Forest:http://eventidemlprpg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=feathermur&action=display&thread=152&page=3]
This town was a maze as much as Dream Valley had become before Kail moved to Ponyville. And while she had grown up in one of the best neighborhoods in the Valley, the one Geoff brought them to seemed...not so naive. Now that Ember had healed her Kail could hold her own against most ponies, but that didn't make this neighborhood feel "safe".
Then again, thousands of years in the future, even the safest neighborhood could turn into ruins.
Still, Kail trusted Geoff and Ember so far - well, Ember certainly, since she was a healer, and if she chose to follow Geoff than Kail would as well. So she followed the stallion that looked so like her father, through streets that looked less than friendly.

[Woohoo, father figure points] Geoff carefully navigated the less than friendly streets of Farin, checking over his shoulder to ensure that Ember and Kail were following him. And that nobody else was also. He wasn't sure about Ember and Kail, but two women, one of whom looked battered and weakened could draw the wrong type of attention. Not to mention that they looked significantly better and more well off than most of the people here.
"You all right?" he asked Kail, still worried about her. He knew about the healing power of unicorns, but a big part of him would always trust science more.

[Ok, I can't even wait any longer - I wrote this scene over a month ago. Kail, meet your great great grandson!]
Roo had left Twilight in his library, searching for monsters and pony-tales. He was searching the...less pleasant...district of this town for any old manuscripts that might have survived. For all that Roo was on the "good side", he'd learned long ago that saving the knowledge of Ponyland could require making acquaintances with the darker side of the world. Roo was no stranger to shady dealings when it came to ancient books.
Which is how he found himself walking the streets of Farin.
~~~~~
"I'm fine," Kail reassured the stallion she was following. "I'm no stranger to a little beating."
Granted, that hadn't been a "little beating" she'd suffered at the hooves of Eclipse, but there was no point telling him that.
Kail’s gaze floated over the crowds, looking for Whispering Wind. It wasn’t the familiar purple of Whisp’s coat that caught her attention, though; it was the even more familiar lavender of another. And the white, mint, and pink mane that went along with that familiar lavender coat. The breath caught in Kail’s throat.
Razzaroo.
Without a word to her companions, Kail began to canter through the crowd, shoving ponies out of her way. She didn’t care about them. She didn’t care about anything at this moment other than getting to the lavender stallion. “Razz!” She yelled through the crowd. “Razzaroo!”
She nearly ran into him as he turned…and she realized it wasn’t Razz at all. This stallion was a unicorn, even if his coloring was the exact same as her boyfriend.
Stupid Kail. Razz was a thousand years dead and she was never going to see him again.
Far from looking surprised at nearly being run over by a half-mad mare, the stallion smiled brightly. It was the only bright thing in this run-down area. “You must be Kailani.”
Her stomach clenched and ears pressed flat against her head as she took a step back. “Who are you?” If this was an agent of Eclipse she would not go back without a fight. She had no weapon except her hooves, but surely her companions wouldn’t let the stallion steal her from the middle of the street?
“I am Razzaroo Hoofspen the Fourth, and your great, great grandson.” He bowed low over his hoof, and Kail stared at him, mute. “You can call me Roo, to reduce the confusion,” he added helpfully as he straightened.
The only thing Kail could think to say was “Grandson? But I don’t have kids.”
His smile grew. “Not yet, but you will. Yes, yes, yes - you will.”
You will. In a thousand years Kail would have a great, great grandson that looked almost exactly like Razzaroo. Which meant…
“I’m going to make it home,” she whispered in awe. “Great Rainbows. I’m going to make it home to Razz.” She sank down on her haunches until she was sitting in the middle of the street, heedless to the traffic around her.
[Haha, it seems we have lost Ember as well...] Geoff kept on walking normally, at least that was until Kail bolted past him like a bat out of hell, which froze him in his steps. And then he took off after her. He assumed that she was running from something, in which case he should probably be running too. Maybe those stonebacks she had mentioned, but he doubted that.
But then he remembered Ember. The three of them splitting up would certainly be no good in this part of town. "COME ON!" He called to her.
And then he saw that Kail had stopped and was talking to somepony. Odd. Geoff shrugged his shoulders. It was one of those days. The last several days had been one of those days. It should stop being one of those days
Ember was suprised when both Kail and Geoff bolted past her, she had been daydreaming once again and took off after them, although she accidentally crashed into a huge stallion. Her eyes widening she whimpered an apology and desperatly tried to spoy Kail or Geoff through the crowds. What the hay were they doing?! Ember finally caught sight of Kail sitting in the middle of the busy street, in front of lavender colored unicorn who appeared to know her. Geoff was kind of standing off to the side shrugging. He was obviously confused as well. The slate colored unicorn let out an exhausted sigh and looked at Kail. "Kail, would you mind introducing us to this friend of yours?" Ember said irritably.
Kail hadn’t noticed that her companions had joined her in the street, but at Ember’s obvious irritation the green peg stood and flipped her tail to get the dirt off.
“This is…um…” How to explain who the pony before her was? They wouldn’t believe he was her great, great grandson. Kail wasn’t sure she believed it yet. She would have thought she was dreaming, except she could still feel Eclipse’s dark tendril crawling in her stomach.
Roo bowed to Geoff and Ember. “Razzaroo Hoofspen the Fourth, at your service. Please, call me Roo.”
“He’s, um…family?” Kail studied him again. Except for the horn and the shagginess of his mane and tail he looked exactly like Razz. She couldn’t stop staring at him. And he kept cutting looks at her as well, the laughter in his eyes not quite hiding the curiosity. It made her self-concious. She tried in vain to smooth her mane again.
Roo waited for a moment for her to continue the introductions, but it seemed he caught his grandmother by surprise. Of course, there was no way she could have anticipated such a meeting, but so far she wasn’t what he was expecting. He’d read of her exploits as a Hero and Champion – never had the books mentioned fear or insecurity.
“And your friends are?” he said.
“Oh! This is Geoff and Ember.” She pointed to each as she said their name.
“Pleasure to meet you both,” Roo said with a little bow of his head.
Geoff bowed his head towards Roo. "The pleasure is mine my good pony." He then realized he had amassed quite a party. Kai might not like it if he brought home a small army. "Well, Roo, are you new in town also. By which I mean if you've arranged lodgings. If not, I'm sure we can work something out... I don't want to impose on my gracious host." Geoff realized he was rambling again. "Of course I suppose it's a bit premature to assume you're going to join up with us." "Why are you here exactly?" Geoff then asked, somewhat rudely, as was his too forward nature.
"Nice to meet you too..." Ember said stiffly, this situation was out of her comfort zone. All of these ponies chattering away like starlings. The thought of having to meet yet another pony made her feel even worse. She didn't like strangers and this was the most socialization she had partaken in, in years. The young firebird, perched on Embers was simply chitterring happily. /How does every pony deal with this? It feels as if they are all staring at me and judging me!/ she thought grumpily. The gaze of another pony suddenly stole Embers attention. As turned around she realized it was the same large stallion, he had a suspicious and angry gaze to him, it was as if she knew him from someplace...but where? Suddenly, it hit her, he was one of the Pegasi who help put out the flames, her flames...Ember snapped her gaze away just as the stallion's eyes widened in recognition. Embers hooves began to spark and she felt dread creeping into her, if this pony realized what she had done, and told other, Ember would have to leave Whinnyapolis! Her worried expression turned into one of panic. "We-we need to go. Now!" She suddenly exclaimed, every pony was giving her an odd look, "Please...we need to leave!" Her voice turned desperate. "Hey! You! The orange maned unicorn!" The stallion called out. Ember's eyes widened and she began to run, her hooves completely cloaked in fire now...She was a wildfire...fast, and misunderstood. She heard other ponies calls resonating behind her, but she didn't stop. She couldn't, not until her secret was safe.
Geoff saw Ember bolt in fear from the group and took off after her. "Wait! Come back!" he cried in agitation. Geoff started to breathe heavy. He was not used to all of this excitement and this running. Especially considering how there seemed to be no purpose to this running. He just needed to get everybody in Kai's house. And then things would be better from there on. At least that's what he hoped.
But danged Ember's youth and her ability to outpace a middle aged stallion. Who hadn't exercised voluntarily in quite too long. He just hoped he could catch up to her
[Sorry I was gone so long, I had the norovirus/stomach flu.]
Roo liked Geoff straight away. He was polite, but didn’t seem the type to bullshit around a problem. They would get along quite well. “I’m new as of this morning, but I have arranged lodgings, thank you. As well as lodgings for my…um, Kailani.”
He didn’t really feel like explaining their relationship quite yet. It was enough to make his own head spin, and he’d had five hundred years to come to terms with it. No sense in confusing a kind stranger with the details.
Just as Roo was about to explain what he was doing in the darker streets of town the grey filly interrupted.
At the outburst, Kail’s whole body went stiff on alert. They were in danger. What if it was Eclipse? She looked around them and saw the angry stallion.
”You!” He yelled and Kail’s eyes widened in fear, but he kept yelling, The orange-maned unicorn!” The peg let out a long breath – he wasn’t here for her at all. He was here for Ember.
The filly took off, cantering through the streets in a mad dash, trailing sparks. Geoff took off after her. Kail looked at Roo in surprise and shrugged. “Um, sorry. I’ll have to find you later.” Then she jumped into the air and flew above the heads of the crowd after Ember. It was easy to spot the unicorn in the fray, for her hooves were engulfed in flame and ponies were jumping out of her way in fear.
Flying was much faster than running across the ground, and Kail dipped down near the flaming filly. “Ember! Ember, slow down! Please! Tell me what’s wrong.”
Soon the crowd was so thick with in the two that Ember was surrounded by fearful ponies, Ember was panicking, pacing and rearing; frantically trying to escape. Her heart pounded as painful flash backs raced through her strained mind, the ponies around her might as well have been the fire that killed her parents...She heard more hooves thudding towards her, "Ember! Ember! Slow down! Please! Tell me what's wrong!" A voice shouted from above. It was Kail. Ember's eyes looked pained and confused as she looked up at the Pegasus, Ember the looked away and did a running leap over a green mare. She did a fast turn into a dark alleyway, breathing hard, the flames from her hooves dulling until it was just small sparks, fading into nothing. With a thid she slid to the ground, trembling. She let the tears she had held inside for so long stream down her cheeks and to the cobblestone path below. Ember heard muffled voices still searching, she knew that they would find her. She was too tired to run anymore. She just had to hope that she had lost the stallion. She felt weak and stupid suddenly, and began to furiously wipe off the tears. "They're the ones who died idiot, stop feeling sorry for yourself!" She whispered to herself angrily just as she saw the shadows of other ponies creeping into the alley way.
[Sorry for taking so long, it's been a busy past couple of weeks]
Geoff tried to keep Ember in sight as she dashed through the crowd. He was glad to not have to worry about Roo, but he had to worry about Ember now. He didn't know her well, but he knew that she was new in a strange town. And probably was just scared. From what, he had no idea. But he could figure that out later. Right now she needed help. Or comfort or something.
He saw her turn down an alley, so he motioned to Kail to follow him down the alley towards her. "Ember?" He called out in trepidation. "What's wrong?"
Poor Ember. She was panicking and Kail didn’t know what to do to help. As the mad dash took the unicorn over a mare on the street Kail had to swerve so she wouldn’t crash into the frightened filly. By the time the peg had righted herself Ember had turned and was disappearing down an alley.
The grey mare was difficult to see in the dark alleyway once her hooves stopped sparking, and Kail hovered near the entrance as she waited for Geoff to catch up. She landed next to him and tucked her wings away as he motioned for her to follow.
As he called to Ember, Kail looked over her shoulder to make sure no one had followed. She felt bad for leaving Roo in the street, until he winked next to the green mare Ember had lept over to make sure she was ok. At least there was one unicorn in this future place that knew how to wink.
Ember continued to wipe the cascading tears away, and attempted to stay silent. They would hate her if they knew! They would think she was a cold-blooded murderer! She just sat there, shaking silently, hearing "Ember? Are you alright?" That must have been Geoff, she could hear their hooves slowly clopping against the pavement as they approached her. She did her best to control her breathing, she was hyperventilating slightly. That Pegasus could rat her out...he could have her banned from the entire kingdom of Equestria! More tears fell down her cheeks. She wanted to run, but all motivation had left her. Her spark was gone for now. So she simply got up, looking at the cobblestone street, and said as calmly as possible. "Let's just get to Kai's." Another tear slipped and hit the path with a tiny splash. She cringed slightly, she really couldn't hide her weakness this time could she?
Kail's heart went out to Ember. The peg didn't know what was wrong, but she knew fear and loneliness, and it was obvious the unicorn was feeling both. It made her think of the kids at the Nursery, frightened and sad after losing their parents in the wars.
She put a wing around Ember's shoulders. "Whatever it is that's hurting you, we'll make it right. I think you're right about getting to Kai's - we could all use some food and rest."
Her lavender eyes turned to Geoff and waited for him to lead the way.
