Name: Spitfire
Age: 27
Type: Pegasus Pony
Symbol:
Appearance: Spitfire is a yellow-coloured Pegasus pony, with a fiery orange mane and bronze eyes. Unlike most other ponies, Spitfire is rarely seen out of clothes, where her outfits generally consist of either her Wonderbolts flight suit, or a more military-looking uniform consisting of a jacket, shirt and tie.
Abilities/Powers/Special talent: Mostly, speed and agility; Spitfire is amongst the fastest of the Wonderbolts.
Personality: Typically an easy-going Pegasus, would be the initial impression Spitfire would give, if with maybe a competitive edge. This isn’t untrue, although it is hardly all this winged pony is. Spitfire has a perhaps unrivalled determination to push herself up to - ane even beyond - her utmost, for no other reason than to demonstrate that she can, and it is this attitude that she makes it her duty to beat into the recruits she is responsible for at the academy. When in this mode, Spitfire’s otherwise almost laid-back persona effectively vanishes, leading some Pegasai who have seen her both on and off the Academy grounds to wonder if she really is the same pony, however Spitfire simply knows that her job requires this attitude; no-pony would take being a Wonderbolt seriously if she was ‘nicer’ on the training ground, if didn’t intimidate them into doing their best.
Items/Accessories/Companions: Aside from the outfits mentioned above, which she is rarely seen out of, Spitfire sometimes wears a pair of dark glasses and, when overseeing cadet training, a whistle around her neck.
Birthplace/home world: Canterlot, Equestria (G4)
History: Born in Canterlot (her father was a Pegasus, but her mother an earth pony) Spitfire never much cared for the city’s high-society attitudes. Every weekend would find the young Pegasus travelling to Cloudsdale, where she would work her hardest to become the best flier she could, eventually leaving her parents at an earlier age than typical to live in the Pegasai homeland. At this point, the young Spitfire really harboured no dreams about joining the Wonderbolts; she just wanted to push herself to her limits, be the very best she could – and it took her by complete surprise when, at eighteen, she was asked to enrol at the Wonderbolt academy. Of course, the Pegasus wasn’t going to turn down the invitation. The training was more exhausting than anything she’d put herself through before, and at times she never believed she’d make anything, but after two years of strenuous training, she was accepted into the elite fliers.
Seven years on, Spitfire is not only still flying with the group, but had become both captain and drill sergeant. Of course, this was hardly an easy journey. For three years, she was simply another one of the Wonderbolts. Then, just as her fourth year of flying with the team was starting, potential disaster struck. A stunt went bad and the stallion captaining the group ended up serverely injured. So serverely, that the doctor's prediction was that he might not ever be able to fly again. And if he did, certainly not at Wonderbolt speeds. The remaining 'bolts came together to discuss their options. It was Spitfire who decided, amidst general consent, that they had to chose one of their number as new captain and get back to flying.
There was not, however, any semblance of consent when it came to the matter of who the promotion went to. The injured captain hadn't imagined a need to appoint a successor - and since he was in a coma, asking for his choice was out of the question - and no-one could agree on who would be best for the team. Eventually, it was decided that each potential candidate for captaincy - the four Lieutenants, a rank which Spitfire had recently been promoted to - would have to prove their skills in a series of, for lack of a better word, tests of their ability as both flier and leader, in shows and the real world.
The other nominees pushed themselves hard as they trained. Spitfire pushed herself beyond hard. Every day, she forced herself to train until she reached her limits, and then beyond. Every day, she was still unsatisfied with herself, and would push herself still harder the next. By the time it came to prove herself, Spitfire's merciless training regimen paid off, and in spite of some of her fellows' reservations, she was the recipient of the promotion to Captain. The next few months were rocky ones; Spitfire's leadership tactics did leave something to be desired, as paranoia over screwing up led her to push her fellow Wonderbolts excessively hard, leading to high tempers amongst the elite fliers. Eventually Spitfire, now nicknamed 'drill sergeant' behind her back, had to learn the hard way that despite being in charge, she nonetheless needed to treat her team with due respect and not like a bunch of new recruits. Slowly, Spitfire began to grasp this, and began settling into her role as a good captain.
Another two years passed before the need arose for a drill instructor at the Wonderbolt Academy and Spitfire, who had never quite forgotten that nickname and had been less-than-impressed with two of the younger Pegasai who had joined the 'Bolts fresh from the academy, decided to step into the post on top of her duties as captain. Determined to press upon the new recruits her own standards of pushing oneself as hard as possible, and then beyond, Spitfire took to the role like a fish to water, suitably intimidating recruits.
Like any number of other ponies, Spitfire has travelled to Whinnyapolis for the Summer Sun Celebration, as of yet unaware of the events that are to unfold.
