Name: RockNote [not Rock Note, RockNote]
Age: 28
Type: Earth Pony]
Symbol: A pair of crossed, flaming drumsticks
Appearance: RockNote's coat is deep red and his mane is an unkempt long silver mess. He has a strong build, quite tall for his age, and could wrestle a royal guard without breaking a sweat. He has numerous piercings, several onyx rings and studs on his right ear and just as many on his left, and both nostrils are pierced. He wears an oxidized steel chain necklace with a polished ball of onyx all the time, and never takes it off. Everywhere he goes, he wears a set of leg-cuffs around his front legs, which is where he stores the numerous amount of lighters he has with him at all times. Beneath his right leg-band is a stylized tattoo of Nightmare Moon stabbing her horn through a dragon, which he designed himself.
Note: He doesn't play guitar, the picture is decieving
Abilities/Powers/Special talent: RockNote is a drummer who specializes in metal and hard rock. In addition to drum kit, he is quite skilled at classical and jazz piano as well as four-stick marimba and vibraphone. If you ask him any percussion-related questions, heed his advice, because he knows what he's talking about, either through trial and error, or on-the-spot education during rehearsals or performances by the other Symphony members.
Personality: Rock is much like a pineapple, tough and spiky on the outside, but he has a rather large soft spot [Especially for cats] if you get to know him long enough. He only recently got over his smoking addiction and in times of stress caves on his no-smoke streak.
He's an intelligent lad, but by no means a scholar or student of any sort. He has a logical mind, and can come up with simple, effective was to solve problems, but never thought to fill his mind with things such as science or history. He knows about what he does, and he can figure out a the general mindset of another pony after talking to them for an hour or two.
He enjoys the company of others, even if he doesn't know them. He has a lighthearted spirit most times, often making jokes, sometimes at his own expense but avoids making anypony else the receiving end of a joke. If he makes any kind of emotional connection with somepony, he will defend them with ferocity. His band and friends are his family, the stage is his home, and music is his bread and butter. When he's not at his kit, he's tapping away on whatever may be closest and produces an appealing sound with his sticks. Don't ask him to stop, because he wont.
Though knowledge of how to handle himself on the street and the ability to take things seriously came naturally from his time traveling with the band and on his own in the darer sides of cities, Rock never really grew up properly, and has a hard time taking certain things seriously. His level of humor varies oddly, shifting from childish giggles when someone slips a mistaken word at the wrong time to slightly bitter sarcasm depending on his mood. He has next to no sense of self-consciousness, and thus doesn't care if his humor may be "improper" with the crowd he's with. Most academic and political humor sails far above his range of comprehension.
Rock has a personal code of honor, believing any fight should be a fair one, or at least as close as possible. He can't make himself lie to somepony to spare their feelings, nor can he allow somepony to be unfairly attacked. He does his best to even the odds, even if it's not his war to fight.
Items/Accessories/Companions: Rock always carries many lighters and his drumsticks with him at all times. He normally travels with his best friend and the best drummer roadie he's ever met, Steel String, when he's on tour with his own band.
~Members of the band are: Shadow Slayer-main vocals; Steel String-lead guitar; Ivory-keyboard and show effects [pyrotechnics/lights/etc]; Thrash-second guitar; Heartsong-backup vocals and resident rocker chick; IronPick-bassist.
Birthplace/home world: Canterlot, in particular, the Baroque Manor.
History: RockNote was adopted as a foal into the Baroque family, his new father the conductor of the Royal Canterlot Symphony and his new mother first chair viola for the same musical group. His adopted sister, Octavia, was a kingdom-renowned cello prodigy who he only even saw for maybe a day every two months, and never much approved of his… less than professional behavior. He always hung with the crowd most of Canterlot’s citizens turned their noses to, was responsible for about a third of the entire city’s graffiti, and had been arrested on seven separate cases, but had never been taken to a real crime case once his family ties were revealed.
Starting at a young age, his adopted parents forced him into lessons for piano, threatening to take away freedoms, friends, and dinners if he didn’t meet certain criteria each month, such as a piece or grouping of scales memorized. By seven, he could sightread most classical Beethoofen pieces without error, but began to despise the instrument as the torrent of required lessons rained down upon him. During the free time he had, Rock learned to play drum set secretly from his family. He accelerated quickly, and soon surpassed even his teacher, showing his mentors new drumstick techniques and tricks.
His family found out about his drumming stint, and rather than get angry at the unapproved behavior, dropped the colt into the Royal Canterlot Symphony as second chair percussionist. He learned marimba and the other instruments from the first chair player, not progressing through lessons as quickly as he had with the drums, but obtained a decent reputation throughout the musical community. At least, until they actually took a look at his criminal record and asked his parents about him. Some took this information in stride, calling him, "a wonderful example of the transforming powers of music." Others merely cast him off as the black mark of the group.
Soon after his eighteenth birthday, he ran away from the Baroque Estate and joined a band and toured underground for a few years. The group wasn’t exactly on-par with the law, and their performances often left a trail of graffiti, both by fan and band alike. They usually held shows in abandoned warehouses and factories, announcing the actual location of the show a day or less before they went on, so the guard couldn’t find them before the audience did. Word travels fast in the underground. While on tour, Rock went through numerous visage changes, the piercings and tattoo. He still wonders if Octavia ever went to any of the performances. The fan-titled "Night Mare Tour" came to an end with the last concert on his 25th birthday, and for the event, his band gave him a chance to travel around Equestria to scope out new locations for the next tour.
Business in Whinnyapolis: The city is the last stop on Rock's list of cities to find locations for his band's upcoming concerts. He's currently staying there for a while until the whole band gets around to the city and can start the next tour after some rehearsals.
Other: RockNote is an anarchist, but has the highest of respect for the alicorn sisters themselves, though his standpint is quite the opposite on the side of Canterlot nobles.
