Geoff stood up, quite eager to see if his rag tag idea would work.
"It's going excellent actually. Fantastic even. I have all the parts and I'm more than ready to make it. Hopefully it works. Thanks for the door." He said to Turnkey.
He walked past him and into his room in order to assemble the vacuum tube and x ray source. It took about five minutes but he was fairly certain it was in working order. He was slightly worried about radiation damage, but he assumed that it would be all right as long as there wasn't prolonged exposure to it. And he was a scientist. What's the point of doing science if you're not going to take a risk?
He walked back out into the main room. "If you'd like to take an x ray of Stormy's wing, I believe I can accommodate you."

When Geoff and Usu came back through the portal, the first thing Kai saw was the bloody bandage wrapped around his brother's muzzle. He called him over, just so he could check on the situation, whilst Geoff sauntered into his own room.
"Yeah?" asked Usutora, breaking from alongside Geoff to stand if front of his brother. Did he want to continue the conversation from earlier, or was there something else he wanted? The only way to know would be to check.
"What happened to your eye?"
"Oh, when Sil's dagger came flying out of your room, it hit me in the face," whispered Usu. "My eye is fine, it hit me closer to my nose."
"Take the bandage off, I want to see it."
Usu did as he was told, though the gash stung when the air hit it. "What do you think?"
"I've seen worse. Hold still." Kai wrapped his brother's head in his aura, sealing the skin back together. It was deep enough that it left a light scar, but other than that, no permanent damage. "Why didn't you tell me about this right away? I could have fixed it so you wouldn't have left bloodstains all over my floor, that I would have to clean up."
"You were busy with Sil. Did he break his wing or something? It looked a little bent when I saw him last."
"Yes. Would you mind going to see him, actually? I'm going to fix just a few things up in here. I'll send Geoff in, too, and you can come out when I knock on the door."
Usu smiled, then trotted through the doorway to Kai's room, and sat down next to Sil. "Hey," he said, trying to sound comforting. "How are you feeling?"
When Geoff came out of his room, mere moments after Usu left, Akaitora turned, and opened his mouth to speak. However, before he could say anyhing, Geoff interrupted him.
"If you'd like to take an x ray of Stormy's wing, I believe I can accommodate you."
Kai chuckled a bit, thinking that an x-ray would have been more useful before the brace had been put on Sil's wing, instead of after. Still, Geoff's heart was in the right place.
"Would you mind waiting in my room for a few moments? I'll let you knw when you can come out. Turnkey and Sil are already in there, so you can socialize for a moment whilst I finish a few things in here. You can even take an x-ray of Sil's wing, if he'll allow it."

Geoff's shoulders sagged a little as he realized his idea was a little too late. He sighed and shrugged. It was convenient to have if the need ever arose, and something about this herd seemed to suggest that the need might arise often. He wasn't really a violent pony per say, just eccentric. And somewhat dangerous.
Geoff didn't really care though. Somepony had to do it, as long as he didn't really have to.
"Sure, I suppose I can wait in your room. I'll give them their privacy." He said while exiting the room.

"I'm doing fine, now," Silent Storm replied to Turnkey, "Mister Akaitora just said I won't be able to fly for a little while. My wing doesn't hurt very much anymore, but it seems heavier and a bit awkward with the brace on it. I should be used to it in a short while, though. Pegasi tend to bounce back from injuries rather hastily, sometimes more hastily than they should."
Pausing momentarily, a memory from days gone by popped into his head. He opened his mouth to share it, but froze before he loosed a syllable when Professor Geoff sauntered into the bedroom wearing a slightly forlorn expression upon his face. Sil considered for a moment, then decided the good professor might also like to hear what he had to say, and continued.
"When I was naught but a young colt, and still lived in Cloudsdale with Lunar Mist," Sil began, "I attended night classes at the public flight school that had been built there. I took the night courses because the attendance was not officially recorded, and I could stay unregistered as an Equestrian citizen. We were hoping that if I didn't exist, legally, then I wouldn't be chased after by deranged scientists, the government, and such."
Storm winced and hoped he hadn't insulted the professor with his remark about deranged scientists, but continued nonetheless.
"Anyway, the non-flight based cirriculum was dull and easy, except for a certain history class, which had the most peculiar teacher. He was tall and quite skinny, with a white beard and glasses always perched at the end of his snout. You wouldn't know him, perchance, would you? He was one of the few teachers there that didn't try to make my life as horrid as physically possible. After classes were done one night, and I was in the library searching for some books on dragons, he found me reading a text between two shelves of musty manuscripts, and told me a tale about the dragons of old and their wings that I wouldn't soon forget."
Sil paused, looked up to the two stallions, and asked, "Would you like to hear that same story?"

"I would love to hea--" Usutora was cut off by a light tremor beneath his hooves. Suddenly realizing why Kai had grouped them all together, out of the way, his eyes opened wider, in thought. "Oh, that's why. That makes much more sense. And it was so obvious, too!"
He then took note that he was rambling, and leaving the other two in the dark about what was going on. For a moment, he considered explaining the situation, but realized, it would take too long, so he shortened it to just the instruction. "Everypony, don't mind the trembling of the floor, and please cover your ears. This is going to be lou--" He was cut off again, this time by a loud, grinding screech. He covered his own ears, and dove onto the bed, waiting for the rumble and screeching to die down.
After locking everypony else in his room, Akaitora popped his joints. This was a very large, very difficult spell. It was easier to hire five other ponies to get the project done in a month, but Kai wasn't the type to hire a construction crew. Besides, this project would be something that no construction crew would do, because without this spell, it would be impossible. It was also true that there were easier ways, but he was in a bit of a rush.
He concentrated his horn on a spot on the ground he had cleared off, where his table used to stand, wrapped his aura around it, and gave a small tug. A small tremor shook the ground, and the seam of his work was barely visible. In essence, his house had been created by raising the density of the stone around it as air flowed into the gap. The stone was just compacted around the walls , ceilings, and floors. This time, he was lowering the density, as he drew the stone out of the floor.
He took a deep breath, and began the process of drawing the stone slab out of the floor. The floor shook, and the stone grinding against itself is it expanded and contracted in his aura. Once the slab was out, he broke his aura into the four columns that would become the legs. They, too came out with tremors and a screech. The aura around his horn and the legs had grown incredibly bright, sweat beaded down his face, neck, and the front of his body. where the auras grew close, sparks buzzed, and where they touched, sparks flew.
After about five minutes of this, he released the spell, happy with his new dining table. As he wiped the sweat from his brow, he placed the manuscript entitled "TERRAMORPHIC EXPANSION" back into the chest, and thought to himself, I really need to eat something. He unlocked his bedroom door, and, panting heavily, spoke.
"Turnkey, you need to help me with dinner tonight. I can't do it alone in this state."

Geoff shrugged his shoulders. It was a loud and obnoxious noise, but as far as loud goes, not much beats having your co-professor blowing up a bag of hydrogen gas next to your ear without your planning it.
He tried to shout at Turnkey above the noise. "What is Kai trying now?"

Usutora turned back to Sil. "As I was saying, I would love to hear your story, but, with things as they are right now, it must wait. Mayhap during dinner?"
He climbed down off the bed, and followed his brother into the kitchen, noting the fact that the floor was now free of his little red leavings, though the table was still piled up in the corner. However, it's replacement looked pretty awesome. the only problem would be telling the difference between it and the floor.
when he arrived in the kitchen, he asked, "So, what do we need to do?"
"Do you see those vegetables on the counter?" Kai indicated a counter space that had a knife, and an assortment of vegetables including lettuce, tomatoes, olives, jalapenos, habaneros, shiitake, avocados, garlic, spinach, cilantro, and three varieties of onion. "Chiffonade the spinach and cilantro. Dice the rest. And don't mix them yet." Kai, on the other hoof, started work on the beans.
It wasn't long until everything was done. Usu still had no idea what he was making, and Kai would just as rather keep it that way. The avocados had been mashed into guacamole, along with the garlic, cilantro, and a few other ingredients. The rest was tossed together until it was well-mixed.
Kai had automatically assumed, that since Usutora had brought a guest for dinner, that he had checked to see if his guest had any food allergies. After all, everypony was supposed to alert the cook if they had a food allergy. Either way, he knew what to do in such a situation, having actually done it twice. No more mishaps tonight, he vowed himself.
After the food was done, and placed in three separate bowls on the counter, Usutora finally saw what it was that he was helping to make. He also saw that he would be of little help now, so he walked back into the living area, after asking if he could be dismissed. With him, he brought a large white tablecloth, which he draped over the table, so that it could be clearly seen.
He didn't have long before Kai would follow him out wit a large platter, layered with the crushed beans, the vegetables, The guacamole, and the salsa, and also some shredded cheese on top. This he placed onto the table, before setting next to it a large bowl of corn chips. He stood by the door to Kai's room, and said, in his cheesiest waiter voice, "Dinner is served."

[Because I don't have the time to write it out at the moment and the event it pertains to has already passed, Sil cowered on the bed until the shaking ceased, agreed with Usu he might tell his story at dinner, and waited in Kai's bedroom with Geoff until, well until what is depicted below occurs.]
Silent Storm chuckled to himself at Turnkey's exaggerated waiter imitation. He rose to his hooves from the bed he was still half-sitting, half-laying on and started toward the door. On his way to the door, he unfolded and refolded his left, braced wing several times, testing its flexibility against his uninjured right wing. the brace held quite well, and allowed for accurate wing movements, but did decrease his ability to unfold it quickly. He finally refolded it and walked through the entryway to Kai's bedroom, and was surprised by what he saw. The table had already been replaced and, not only that, it had nacho fixings displayed upon it atop a bright white tablecloth.
Sil hesitated at the sight of the delectable nachos, remembering both how great they had tasted last time he ate them, but also the sometimes destructive aftereffects that occurred when he munched on spicy foods. Still, his mouth watered at the sight of the crunchy chips and homemade dips, so he concluded to still eat the meal so kindly provided for him, he just reminded himself to go easy on the salsa.
"May we start?" Sil asked, eager to tuck into the tasty food set before him.

"You may," said Kai, bringing a bite to himself. "Dig in whenever you feel you are ready." Kai knew that if he didn't eat soon, he would collapse from exhaustion. There was no way he was waiting for everypony else to start. He needed the calories.
Usu even joined in, scraping the chips against the side of the platter, piled high. Almost immediately, his eyes started to water when the habaneros hit his tongue. He didn't spit it out, but he did cry a lot. He wasn't used to spicy foods yet, which was strange, considering he was here twice a week.
Kai, on the other hoof, was shoveling it down his throat. He didn't realize how hungry he was until he started eating. He hadn't eaten since lunch, and he had done most of his work since then. Carving out Geoff's room, expanding his kitchen, and creating that table had sapped his energy more than he had expected. It was almost more than he could take. Almost. As soon as he was sure he wasn't going to collapse, he brought in a few bottles of ale and yeasted cider, so that everypony had a drink.
"So, Sil, you said you had a story," said Usutora. "I'm sure Kai would love to hear it too..."

Geoff followed Sil out to the brand spanking new dining room table. He was going to question how it got there, then just shrugged his shoulders and muttered, "unicorns and their magic..." he grumbled. But then he saw what adorned the table and brightened up a bit. Food. Nachos to be specific. He glanced around the room quickly looking for scorch marks, and seeing none smiled. He remembered what happened earlier and hung his head in shame a little, but he hid it by piling his plate high. He didn't expect the first bite to be so spicy, but after coughing heavily and grabbing and chugging his water, he was a bit more hesitant. But his love of garlic won out in the end. After eating to a comfortable point he settled back, and thanking Kai and Turnkey for the food, and especially the ale, he began to drink in earnest. At the mention of a story he cheerfully encouraged Sil to tell his story. "Nothing helps the food digest like a story. And a pint or 10 ale"

Silent Storm placed a fair number of the triangular crisps onto his plate along with dip and, despite his self-warning, a numerous amount of salsa. He chomped a chip piled high with each condiment; it had a bit of kick to it, but nothing like ground late-summer ruby in burritos. He gladly accepted one of the ciders, sipping it sparingly while continuing to nom the nachos.
After the encouragement and prodding from Turnkey and the professor, Sil swallowed what he had been munching and cleared his throat with a brief,"Mmm Hmm", and began his story, looking intently into the eyes of everypony in the room.
"Long ago, in the land of ice and rain, there lived two families of dragons, both noble, yet vain. One of the families bore claws and walked on the ground; they tilled the cold earth and sang with great sound. These beasts produced all the good food, which set both families in quite a great mood. The others had wings, and flew through the air. They built great skyward cities, and lived peacefully there. Theirs was the responsibility of keeping the land calm; if the world had been burned, they were its balm. The two groups lived in harmony, and they were bonded with trust; the chains that connected them could never rust."
Sil paused and made sure he still had everypony's attention, taking a slow sip of cider, then resumed the tale.
"Once a year, these beasts would meet, in a celebration of music, fire, and heat. At one such fest, either by fate, will, or chance, an equine found the merry group and watched them dance. Fear and wonder struck his heart, and with a clatter of hooves, did quickly depart. When he reached his small posse, each a pony as he, they all voted to leave, in essence, to flee. They brought news of the dragons with them to their towns, and exaggerated descriptions of them were met with upturned lips and frowns. The leader of these ponies, their civilization merely starting off, decided from "their" land these beasts should be thrown off."
"Meanwhile in the land where dragons ruled, two younglings with fate fooled. A pair of dragons with families apart, did have a connection of mind, of heart. The two became lovers and their bond grew; without disapproval their families knew. Late in the year, two hatchlings came forth, and were brought by their parents for safe raising, north. These new hatchlings brought forth a new time, for they had both wings to fly and claws to climb. While their parents brought them up with love and care, the ponies had risen and assaulted the families, with both stallion and mare. The dragons attempted to calm the equine's causeless invasion, but the ponies would have none of it and vowed there would be no salvation."
Sil paused once more to take another sip of his beverage and observe each of the stallion's expressions.
"The dragons, it turned, would be all but defeated; they could have taken the whole mob whilst seated, but instead of fighting they attempted reason, and instead of war, they fled that land of one season. The equines claimed victory, shouting of their success, and when the new dragons returned fully grown, they came back to a mess. The city was in ruins, their farmland could be destroyed no more, and when the saw this, they loosed a great roar. The same leader of ponies, now older but still strong, thought the dragons were too peaceful to do any wrong. When he explained what had been done, and told the four dragons to go, they glared at him with fire in their eyes and coldly replied "NO". The villagers hastily fled some way away, but the dragons remained, and did one more thing during their stay. They lit the settling alight and the fires burned red; now the equines were shelter-less, but none were dead."
"As time wore on, tensions grew, and still remain in me and in you. The dragons grew distant and few in number, less likely to fight and more to slumber. After being treated as a monster for many time, the accusations and reality started to rhyme. When you treat one as thought they were a demon, you'd best look out, for they may just become one. Still some of the dragons of old live on to this day, their minds strong as ever, though their bodies decay. The ponies, you see, have continued to thrive, though to match the dragons' cities, they may as well not strive. The wondrous days of old now long ago gone, the dragons' legacy will still carry on."
Sil set down his now empty bottle of cider, having concluded his yarn, waiting for his audience's reaction.

Kai thought about the story for several moments with his eyes shutHis left hoof drew itself up to his horn, which he tapped a few times. He swallowed the wad of crushed chips, dip, and saliva he had stored in his cheek for the past thirty seconds or so, then pulled his head up, and opened his eyes to met Sil's.
"An excellent story, with excellent formatting. I remember reading something similar to that, but the ink on the page was a bit smeared in places." He brought an unopened bottle of cider to his lips, bit the cap off, spat it aside, and threw his head back. When it came back down a moment later, the bottle was empty, and was set aside to be washed and refilled. "If your story here is good, you may have *hic* ...Excuse me, you may have saved a piece of history that can be updated in the hall of records. How did you come across this story?"
Usutora was, to say the very least, interested by the idea of dragons being the joining of amphithere and lindworm. It actually gave him a new idea for a lock, which he thought was a bit strange. True, he was a locksmith, and it was his job to come up with harder locks to break through, but was this really the time to come up with a new design? He set it aside in his mind, as his brother spoke. When he was finished, Usu simply nodded at Sil, thinking that it wasn't his place to answer questions directed at others.

By the time Kai had inquired about the story's source, Silent Storm had cleaned his plate of both chips and topping, and had polished off a second cider. He wiped a small amount of food debris from his snout and replied,
"That particular tale was told to me by a historical professor at the Cloudsdale public academy. He was quite nice to me when I was there. He was quite tall and thin with a pale orange coat, and he always had a pair of spectacles perched on the tip of his nose. You wouldn't happen to kn-"
Sil's speech was interrupted as a burst of blue flame escaped from his mouth, filling the empty air between the four of them. He quickly shut his muzzle and covered it with a hoof, his cheeks blushing slightly. I must've eaten a bit too much spicy food, he thought.
"I'm terribly sorry," the pegasus told the bunch, "It's the salsa, I ate a tad too much, and it has a tendency to throw my energy balance out of line. Is there any chance I could get to somewhere outsi-"
Silent Storm was again interrupted by a burst of blue fire from his muzzle, but this one was slightly larger and was accompanied by a deep, gutteral roar that dragons were so known for. He clamped his mouth shut and shook his head side to side erratically, trying to keep himself from loosing another blaze.

Akaitora did his best to contain the flame that had burst from Sil's mouth. With a second, more powerful burst, he was a bit singed. He knew then that if he was too tired to contain a flame that was growing in power, he wouldn't be able to contain what was soon to come. With a bound, he was atop the table, with another, he was at the portal. He trew it open, turned back to Sil, and shouted, "Come on!"

Geoff munched thoughtfully. "Excellent my dear boy!" He raised his glass and drank deeply to him, probably a bit too deeply. And then his head focused on a point in the distance. A thought struck him with such clarity that consumed his mind. Often times such problems did, the problem of fire breathing. Biology was in no manner his forte but he did have an interest in it. He started to think about possible reactions, or maybe it was much more complicated, a long enzyme chain that helped them control the fire. When he came out of his thoughts he noticed Kai on top of the table. He really needed to stop blanking out like that. [Also, you trew it open? ]
