I guess I'm ready.
Kai tightened the blindfold around Sil's eyes. It wasn't often that you came across somepony who had never played Pin the tail on the pony. It was a rare occasion, but the very same pony volunteering to go first was even more rare. Usually, they went third or fourth, never letting on that they didn't know what they were doing.
Once, twice, thee times Kai spun Sil around, keeping him steady by holding his shoulders, but by the amount he'd had to drink tonight, he wasn't much help. When Sil stopped after the third spin, Kai slowly walked him forward, whispering into his ear. "Don't be nervous. You'll do fine." When the two reached the wall, Kai let go and backed away.
"It's just in front of you. Good luck."

Hy adored playing games, although she wasn't sure if drunk pin the tail on the pony was a good idea. Still, as long as they didn't spin everypony too much it could be very fun. "I'll go next," she said as Kai spun Sil and pointed him towards the wall.
~~~~~
Kail, on the other hoof, was not much of a game-playing pony, and she stifled a yawn, not wanting to appear rude. She was exhausted, beat up, emotionally destroyed, and wanted nothing more than to crawl into bed and sleep for days. Eventually this situation with Eclipse and her sisters would come to a head, and Kail needed to be alert and ready. Even if she couldn't technically fight the dark alicorn.
She leaned over to Roo. "You mentioned accomodations earlier this afternoon? Would there be enough space for Whisp as well?"
He nodded. "Absolutely. I've secured three rooms in the Neighathorn Tower. I knew she'd be coming."
How odd to find a pony that was not only related to her, but had been waiting for her to show up in the future. She wondered how much he knew about what was going to happen.
Kail turned to Whispering Wind on her other side. "I don't suppose you're ready to leave the party? I don't know about you, but I really need to get some sleep."
Silent Storm, shakily standing and barely holding onto the tail after the spin, timidly proceeded onward toward the wall. He reached out booth hooves in an attempt to balance himself as well as keep him from getting a faceful of stone. A few steps later, he felt the paper of the pony target and thrust the tail forward, sticking it to the sign. The pegasus breathed a sigh of relief and slowly pulled off the blindfold to see how he'd done. The tail was place perfectly.... if this particular pony had a condition in which it grew a tail from its lower leg.
"C-close enough?" Sil said, forcing a smile onto his muzzle. He wasn't sure if this was a good score or a horrid one.
The odd peg sauntered back to his previous seat near Wisp and sat down, not quite as snugly close to her as before. He reached for his glass, but decided better of it and replaced it with a sandwich instead, as he was starting to sober-up a little. Whilst munching on his morsel of dough and filling, he overheard the pony's plans to leave post-haste.
"Aww... going s-so soon?" He inquired after clearing his mouth of food, "I suppose i-if you must go, you sh-shall."
Whisp watched the games attentively, forgetting for the slightest moment what a horrible situation she had wound herself in. She was back with Kail, just like back then ... a thousand years ago. She felt a sting of disappointment as she watched Sil stumbling across the room. Why was it that adults needed to numb their brains in order to let go and have fun? Maybe, just maybe the answer could be found in that awful trickle in the back of her head, those things that wouldn't really leave her alone. Whispering Wind remembered always thinking that she would never end up like them. The unicorn bit her lip.
Kalilani interrupted her train of thought, but before she could answer the drunken pegsasus spoke. She eyed the stuttering dragon-esque creature, a polite faint smile surfacing. It seemed like this guy was normally kind of sweet. She wished him the courage to stay sober the next time he was invited to a party.
"Um, yeah. We're really glad you'd have us, but it's been a long day to say the least." She directed her last words towards Kail and Roo as if to distance herself from the situation: "I'm ready to hit the hay."
Kai was quite pleased with Sil's score. It wasn't far from the target, so he could congratulate him, but also far enough to encourage other ponies to try for a better score. His happiness didn't last long though. As he was giving the blindfold to Hy, he overheard Kail, Whisp, and Razzaroo [still fun to say] plotting to depart. The only comfort he received from this conversation was that Roo had prepared rooms for them, and in Neighathorn tower, to boot. With protection fit for a princess, or two, he wouldn't have to keep such a close eye on Whisp, making his promise to Luna much easier. He also had to report to the princess about Kail's arrival and safety.
"I suppose that if you have rooms set up in Neighathorn, I have no qualms about your dismissal. But at the very least, I'm not letting you leave without some sandwiches or something." As if it had heard him, a series of plastic bags came floating out of the kitchen, and stored several of the sandwiches for easy toting, one for each pony. "I'll also be accompanying you all to the tower. This section of the city can be dangerous this time of night, and, well... I also need to deliver a message to somepony. Personally, so that I may keep my promise to them."
Donning his cloak and peering out through the portal to be certain that nopony was nearby, he turned back to the three departees. "Ready whenever you are...
[Are we going to put Neighathorn tower in another thread, as it's in a different district? I think it makes sense. Besides, this thread is already super-long, and we have another game after this before we actually leave for the celebration.]
Hy clapped and cheered as Silent Storm placed his tail, even if it was off by a leg's length. Still, for a first-time player it was pretty good. She bounded up out of her seat to grab the blindfold, but stopped with it in-hoof when she heard Sil ask them about leaving.
"Oh. I thought...hmm." She thought Whisp and her friend would be staying with her, since she'd already made up the bed for Whisp and gotten the extra blanket out to snuggle up on the couch herself. Not that she could blame them for preferring their own beds in the Tower. "Will we see you at the celebration tomorrow?"
Kail looked at Roo, not sure what his plans were. Her only plan was to destroy Eclipse and find a way home, assuming that was even possible.
Roo smiled. "Sandwiches would be lovely, and of course we'll be at the celebration tomorrow. The Summer Sun Celebration has been my favorite since they turned Fest Eve into Hearth's Warming Eve a number of years ago." That number was in the hundreds, but he wasn't going to mention that.
"An escort back to the castle would be lovely. Only one of us is much of a warrior, and I would hate for anything to befall Whisper Wind."
"Well, then..." Kai opened the portal and stepped through. There was nopony in sight, so he helped the others through the portal and out into the moonlight. He may not have been as well armed as he'd like, but he could still kick the tar out of anypony that crossed them. He hoped...
"You all take the lead. I'll cover the rear, so I can keep eyes on all six of you. Stick close to each other. I don't want anypony getting lost."
[Forgive me. I totally got caught up in my new book and completely forgot about everything else, Kail included. I will try to be a more prompt pony from now on!]
Kail shivered as they crossed the threshold of the portal into the cool night air. It was still better than Dark's long-distance winking, but she preferred non-magical modes of travel.
Roo found the sensation exhilarating, and gave his tail a good shake as he walked through. "Right then, the Tower is this way. Follow me."
[Are we playing out all their goodbye's at the Tower, or should we switch to whatever everyone is doing next?]
[I'm content to skip. Quite frankly, it's been a year since yesterday, and I'm quite anxious to shatter Kai's shoulder and still have him walking about. At the end of this night is where the story begins, at the belated Summer Sun celebration. I think we've done enough drawing out for the time being, personally.]
[Sounds good to me. I'm moving Kail and Roo to the Tower then. Hy's floating around in her place if anyone needs her.]
[Whispering Wind jumping outta this thread. Re-appearing in ... the tower. Kail, Roo and Whisp are not going to participate in the celebrations, right?]
