[47th of Summer, Early evening. Continued from "Looking for Fluttershy": eventidemlprpg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=lyrina&action=display&thread=161&page=2 And sorry for my odd spelling of the word favours. I know most people spell it favors, but I'm eccentric like that...] Usu had an internal confict with himself. He didn't know whether he was supposed to feel terrible, or great right at this moment. On one hoof, he was fully healed, and was physically more comfortable than he'd felt all day. on the other hoof, his exploits today had caused him physical trauma, and the stallion beside him emotional trauma. On another hoof, He would soon be heading to a party with some of his closest friends. However, on a fourth hoof, he had just fallen to the ground because he only had four, and counting on them while walking probably wasn't a smart idea. As he picked himself back up with an "I'm fine," he tossed in the tiebreaker. He hadn't eaten since breakfast. Still, despite the fact that he hadn't skipped a meal since the development of his magnetic seal lock two months ago, He kept his mouth shut. The last thing he wanted to do was whine at Sil right now, and besides, there would be food at the party. Still, the silence between he and Sil had lasted long enough, and was starting to get uncomfortable. As they turned the corner onto Sil's street, he turned to the peg, and nudged his shoulder. "Eventful day, no?"

"Eventful day, no?"
Silent Storm chuckled slightly, then replied, "Now th-there's an understatement."
He looked around to the other houses on his street as they sauntered past. Most were empty or shut, but a few had open doors and window, and he heard the bustling of ponies as they gathered together before tomorrow's celebration. A few peeked out at him, and must have been in a largely celebratory mood, because they were all grins and giggles. A couple of colts ran across the road in front of Sil and Usu, chasing after a runaway ball.
They arrived the porch and to Sil's surprise, the door simply pushed open. After a moment's thought, he remembered in his haste this morning he hadn't had a chance to lock it. The package he's seen delivered from the window in the tower was sitting ominously, about shoulder-height and body-length, next to the door with a hoof-written note sitting atop it. When he took a look, he saw it simply read- "Prepare." He looked for a signature, but all he could find was a squiggly incomprehensible letter at the bottom corner.
He tried to push it through the door, but it was heavy and budged naught but a few inches under his own pressure. It clanked when he pressed against it, and he wondered just what exactly was in it. "Could you give me a hoof, Key?" Sil asked and gestured with a hoof of his own

Usu was impressed at the sheer size of the box. It was larger than he was, almost. He walked around it, looking for whoever might have sent it. A name, a symbol, a logo... All for naught. The only name on it was Nightmare Storm, right next to the address. A relative of Sil, mayhap?
Suddenly, it began to move. This made Usu jump into the air a few feet, under the pretense that somepony was in it. The movement stopped, and Usu's mind came to rest, as he heard Sil ask for a helping hoof. He made a half-circle around the box, and positioned himself next to Sil. A few decent shoves later, the box was in the hallway with them.
"I wonder what it could be?"

"Only o-one way to f-find out," Sil said after closing the front door, then drew his dagger and slashed loose the chords holding the large box shut. He resheathed the weapon and carefully lifted the box's lid with a tentative hoof to check for any paint-sprayers or such joking traps he'd been afflicted with in the past, then tossed it aside. Underneath a large number of padding was... "A-armor?" the pegasus questioned nopony in particular, and lifted a carefully crafted breastplate from the container. The piece of metal protection had an odd color tone, nearing black. Sil didn't know of any kind of black metals, but supposed it could be tempered or finished to appear as such. He set the breastplate aside and pulled out the helm. It looked much like a royal guard's helm, except for the color and where there would normally be the blue plume on the top of the helm there was a sort of Spiny fin or wing, he couldn't quite tell. "Who sent this? Is it for me? What would I need to prepare for?" Sil wondered aloud. He sat the helm on top of his head, and it fit eerily well, like they'd been made for him. He searched through the remainder of the armor and put each piece on as he found them, starting with the breastplate he'd already set aside. After a few moments, he was clad in a full set of shiny black armor that fit almost perfectly, with room for his wings and allowance for his full range of motion. Sil posed comically for Key and, imitating a mare he'd met once in Cloudsdale asked, "Does th-this g-go with m-my eyes?" He figured since the whole thing was a bit too close and creepy for comfort, perhaps he smother it with a bit of humor. [and for anypony who can't visualize exactly what I mean, here elocdude.deviantart.com/art/Silent-Storm-s-New-Armor-RS-347520426?q=gallery%3Aelocdude%2F41013389&qo=7elocdude.deviantart.com/art/A-Pledge-367115166?q=gallery%3Aelocdude&qo=0 ]

Usu watched as Sil tried on the armor. It fit well, so there was no need to have it further fitted. Which was a good thing, since they didn't have time today. When asked if it went with his eyes, Usu did a quick walkaround inspection.
"No, but it works with your coat." A sarcastic question met with a genuine answer. Then again, Usu didn't deal much with sarcasm. Hay, the only new pony he had let into his life in the last two years had been Sil, which brought his grand total of associates up to seven, only one of which ever used sarcasm with him. Well, two, now.
"So, if you don't mind my asking," he started, turning the box so Sil could see the side with the writing. "Who's Nightmare Storm?"
[Sarcasm met with sincerity. Reminds me of every conversation we've ever had, ever.
Also, sorry for being this late in posting, I have a rule against posting while intoxicated.]

[so it does.]
Silent Storm took a few steps forward and stared intensely at the personal address. He waited, pondering for a few moments, before properly answering. He stood up from his slightly crouched position, then spoke.
"I d-don't kn-know of any N-Nightmare Storm," Sil said, a puzzled tone creeping onto the edge of his voice, "I h-have a few relatives th-that I know of w-with th-their second name being 'Storm', b-but no 'Nightmare Storm'.
Feeling perhaps a little explanation may be helpful, the metal-plated peg trotted up to his bedroom and back, toting with him a scrapbook. He sat down on one of the couches in his living room, took of his helmet and set it on the cushion beside him, then gestured for 'Key to sit across from him on the other couch.

Usu gladly sat down next to Sil on the couch, and glanced at the contents of the book. Mostly pictures, but there were other items between the pages, too. Unable to come up with words, he simply waited with his mouth shut for Sil to explain what was what in the scrapbook.

"Lunar M-Mist made this up f-for me so I could r-remember h-her and everything else that happened i-in Cloudsdale after I m-moved here," Silent Storm started, and opened the thick, leather-bound cover from the book's pages. He flipped to about a third of the way through the book, then stopped where a couple of photographs and an envelope were wedged. He took the larger of the two pictures and turned it around so both of the stallions could easily view it.
The image imprinted upon the heavy backing was a mare who was roughly the same size as Sil, though perhaps a little bigger, who had a deep magenta coat with an orange mane. Her mane had much the same structure as Sil's, being more fire than organic fiber, but was closer to the length and shape of Miss Rarity's mane than his own.
This particular mare was standing in front of a waterfall with the sun rising just behind its edge. She appeared to be a unicorn, but a closer look revealed that not only the single horn at her forehead existed, but several extra spines of diminishing height followed over the top of her head and down to the base of her neck, where they became too small to see through her mane.
"This i-is Serene Storm, m-my, w-well... the closest thing I have t-to a sister." Sil said, handing Key the photo and pulling out the other, which was the same mare in an extravagant gown, smiling brilliantly with teeth as sharp as Sil's as she danced with a fancily-dressed stallion at some kind of ball or gala.
"I had a b-brother, Shadow S-Storm, but..." the odd pegasus stopped abruptly, then haltingly proceeded, "but he's... I... I only g-got to meet h-him once before he... b-before he was k-killed."
Sil took the envelope from the pages and stared at it without opening it. "All I have l-left of him i-is this letter."

Usu stared at the picture for a few moments before he realized she was just like Sil, in that she had an anomalous body structure. She was beautiful, no question, but a look at the other photo of her filled his thoughts with the assumption that she was taken. Thinking it rude to ask, he refrained from doing so.
At the mention of having a brother, Usu turned his head to see the envelope. It wasn't sealed, at least, not anymore. At least once, Sil had looked at it.
From what he could divine, Sil got along well with his sister, which was only odd because she seemed to be very well off. Noble, in fact. On the other hoof, he and his brother were distant. 'Why is that?' he wondered to himself.
"What does the letter say?" he asked, the added, "If you don't mind my asking..."

"Th-the letter is an account that h-he wrote of the l-last m-month of his life," Silent Storm said, "I... I don't think I-I could read it t-to you. If you want to kn-know, you can read it for yourself."
Sil slowly handed the thick envelope over to his brown friend. He set the heavy scrapbook onto his coffee table with a solid *thud* and got up from the couch. He was a bit thirsty and had a bad case of the munchies. After a glance back at Turnkey with the letter, he left for the kitchen.
A few moments later, the pegasus returned loaded with a pitcher of rasberry iced tea with several lemon slices floating in it, two tall glasses with a few ice cubes at the bottom, a plate of biscuts, and a large bowl of snack mix containing pretzels, cheezies, those little bread chips everypony likes, and a random assortment of other salty morsels.
He placed all of these on the table near the scrapbook and poured himself a glass of tea.

Usu tentatively took the envelope from Sil, and slid out the numerous pages. Starting at "To my dear brother," he began reading. There were certain times that made him laugh, times that made him want to cry, and even an instance that made him look over his shoulder. Still, his mind blanked when he read the last few words of the letter.
"See you in hell, brother."
He sat there, reading those words over and over, he had mixed feelings about shadow, now that he knew more about him. He didn't even notice that Sil had already left and come back with... some sort of drink, biscuits, and some snack mix. He refolded the letter, and slipped it back into the envelope.
"I take it you and your sister were closer than you and your brother. I wish I could've met either of them," he said, plucking out a garlic and rye chip from the snack mix. Go figure, it was the only thing he liked from snack mix. He also poured a small amount of... whatever the drink was, and gave it a sip. Raspberry. He liked raspberry. He went ahead and poured enough to fill the glass.
"So, are you going to wear that to Kai's party?"

"I take it you and your sister were closer than you and your brother. I wish I could've met either of them."
"Yes, I s-suppose that's true," Sil said as he sat down once again, "Even if only b-because I knew her for much l-longer than he. Perhaps I can introduce you to Serene s-sometime. She comes around once every few y-years and stays for a week or so."
He took a large draught of raspberry tea, downing nearly a third of the glass, and snatched a biscuit from the platter.
"So, are you going to wear that to Kai's party?"
"Hrrmgh?" Sil questioningly harrumphed through a mouthful of biscuit, then swallowed and looked down at himself. He was still wearing the armor from the box. He hadn't really noticed its presence, it felt like a second skin against his coat.
"I suppose I w-will," Sil said, nodding in approval of his newfound metallic apparel, "B-but I'm going to leave the h-helm back here at home.
The pegasus tossed the rest of the biscuit into the air, then flicked it into his mouth with a wing.

[There. No longer so drunk as to be stumbling over my keyboard.]
Usu clapped his hooves together a few times at Sil's little flourish. He silently wished he had that sort of agility. He snatched a biscuit from the bowl, and stood up off the couch.
"Well," he said, taking a small bite of the biscuit, "I suppose these are mine..." he picked up his teeth off the floor, no longer sitting on a pool of blood, but sitting on a dry, red stain. "I suppose we should do something about that, too..."

"Oh m-my!" Sil gasped slightly at the red elliptical of crimson. He'd just had his floors cleaned a few days ago, and finding a wooden floor cleaner who would actually work for him of all ponies was more of a chore than he'd thought. Even after the job was done, the cleaner had demanded a large increase from his normal rate, and Sil was now short more than a few bits.
"Don't you h-have some kind of magic s-spell or something th-that could clean this u-up?" the peg asked his friend hopefully.

[Sorry for posting so late. These last few days have been crazy. If I'm not Drunk, I'm hungover. If I'm not hungover, I'm being hounded by people who apparently need me to do something for them, and I'm to polite to say no. If I'm not being hounded, I'm being woken up by some guy I don't spend time with anymore who invited himself into my house right after I fall asleep. And I'm pretty sure the rule is "When you walk into someone's bedroom, and they're sleeping, and they're using someone else for a pillow, you're not supposed to wake them up," but I have yet to find out if this unsanctioned 'guest' has ever heard of this rule.
Sorry for the rant... Like I said, crazy couple of days...]
"I don't," said Usu, examining the stain. "Kai might, though. Kai knows everything. If there is a spell to pull blood out of a wood floor, odds are, he's glanced at it."
Usu walked around the area, trying to determine exactly how bad it was. "Actually..." he put his hoof to his chin in thought. "Do you have a quill and some paper I could borrow?"
